Because my good friend Seth decided to get married this summer we left a little later then normal for Idaho. We decided to make the drive up more enjoyable this year and have a little Clark vacation. On Thursday morning, thanks to Coach Beall, we left around 9:00 and were on our way. Little did we know that later that afternoon Monsoon Madness hit the valley and we would have been flooded out. The kids looked cute and besides them learning how to ask are we there yet things went great.
I always wanted to bring the kids to the bottom of Glen Canyon Dam. I remember the tour when I was little. So when we arrived there the people told us we would have to wait an hour for the tour. Since we were doing the Clark vacation thing instead of just driving for speed we waited. In the time we waited we walk over and back across the bridge.
It is a lot further then you would think. Then we ate a few snacks and it was time for out tour to start. The movie Transformers really helped the boys to be more interested. They showed me the parts of the dam where starscream landed and blew up the power plant. It didn't really matter that this was a different dam. The boys really though it was cool that the walls deep inside the dam were cold. It is 55 degrees down there which is great after standing outside in over 100 degree weather.
It is fun to look up from the bottom and see how high the dam really is.
After the tour we drove an hour further to Kanab and stayed in the Shilo Inn. We went swimming in the pool but not the spa. It was like 200 degrees. McKade kept wanting to get back in it. Hot!! It was a fun first part of the trip. We didn't get much sleep as the experience was almost too exciting for the boys. McKade kept asking Dallin if he was asleep yet. This continued until about 3 in the morning.
