School is going well and we are super busy. For the second year in a row I have been the timer for the beat the heat 5K run that Higley's cross country team puts on. This year I asked if they would let Jami run for free if I timed again. They said yes so her and Steph teamed up and finished in the blazing time of 45 minutes.
They accomplished their goal of not finishing last. Not too shabby considering they were pushing kids in strollers through thick gravel, the rain, and lightning. The lights overheated halfway through the event that didn't start until 7:30 PM, so most of the runners finished in the dark. It was exciting.
My football team did not start out so hot and was absolutely destroyed the first game of the year. Only about 9-10 kids had every played tackle football and it showed. We got our butts whooped by a score of 51-0. It was very embarrassing. The kids didn't know how to line up. They made mistakes that you would find on a corny football comedy show. Yikes! So we had two days because of interesting scheduling to get ready for our second game. We won 12-0 but should have won by around 40. We would get into the red zone and then make silly mistakes or penalties. It was quite the turn around. Honestly, I think we could have grabbed any 11 kids (girl or boy) out of the stand the first game and they would have done just as good. I was so thankful to see the team play hard and do the things we had been teaching them for months.
