What Does the Heat Index Say?

I am working with the incoming freshmen in the weight room from 9-11 everyday during the summer. I have been wanting to ride my bike to school again for a while. It will help me save money on gas and it is good exercise. I have ridden by bike before but usually I try to get into a little better bike shape before hand. Not this year! So last Monday I was off. It is around 11.?? mile to the school from my house. I take some of the backroads as most of the major roads to Higley from my house would not be safe to ride on. It usually takes me about 45 minutes to get there in the mornings. It took me 53 minutes this morning. I hit 3 of the 4 new stoplights that have been put in since last time I rode. I didn't realize until I stopped that the seat had been lowered at some time for Jami to ride, so I had worked my legs harder then normal. Besides forgetting to call Jami and tell her I was there safe everything went great. Sorry Jami!!! I love you!!
The workout with the kids went good and I worked on some classwork for an hour or so. It was about 1:00 PM when it was time for me to go home. I was off. I realized that it was hot outside when I couldn't touch parts of my bike because they were too hot after only about ten minutes. The metal on my sunglasses was also beginning to burn me. I couldn't understand why I was so tired. It took me an hour and three minutes to get home which is a personal record. I only stopped once to drink some water but pushed through the rest of it. It always takes longer to get home because it is mostly up hill. You don't notice the slope in a car but you sure feel it on a bike. Not to mention that the old backside isn't really in prime riding condition and by this point things are beginning to get a little tender. I remember when my dad would do things growing up, we all thought was stupid, just to prove to himself that he could do it. I am so glad that gene was passed down to me. It was about 112 degrees outside and Jami told me that the news specifically told people to not go outside and especially not to go jogging at this time. I thought to myself well they didn't mention riding bikes. I know some of you out there can run marathons but I find 23 miles in plus 100 degree weather is a little ruff. Anyways I thought some of you might enjoy seeing the new tan line.

I guess the shirt I was wearing fits a little higher on the sleeves then normal. OUCH! Sorry mom I still slouch all the time. Jami remind me to suck in my gut next time Yikes! Anyways I probably won't do that for at least another week. :)

Good job! Be careful and make sure you drink lots of water hours before and after you are doing this, so you don't get dehydrated. Love you!
