President's Day Adventure

Presidents day started off great considering the day before Grandma Kathy came over and watched the kids so Jami and I could actually listen to Stake Conference. Pretty cool changing 3 Stakes into 5. Over 17,000 members were involved! Before Grandma left we had to show her what guitar hero was. She only got to play twice but she was already starting to get it and rock out. We also got to play the piano a little bit. The only problem we have is that everybody wants to play at the same time. The end result does not sound too much like music. I am glad however, that they all like to play the piano. Well see if that attitude continues as they grow older. This morning started out with a very good track practice. It was not manditory but almost all of my pole vaulters came. We spent a good two hours working on drills and technique. They should be pretty good. One of the highlights of the day is that Grandma and Grandpa took Dallin, McKade, and Parker out. They went to Tumbleweed Park? on Germaine and ??? which is a new park. The boys really seemed to have had fun. They were also treated to lunch and ice cream. While they were gone Jami and I folded a mountain of laundry. It is very hard to do laundry when the kids are around. They all want to "help" and the clothes seem to get unfolded faster then we can fold. It was nice to get it folded and put away before the boys got back.
When they returned Jami got ready and I had the time she was in the shower to figure out what we were going to do as a family. We ended up driving towards the Superstition mountains. Every time we do something, we almost always end up driving towards Power Road as we still don't have too many options closer to home. I am sick of driving the same old roads so I decided to check out a trail that I have always wanted to hike. In the Lost Dutchman State Park their is a hike that brings you up on top of Flatiron which is a point on the mountain that you see as you look towards the mountains. The road bringing you their is fun to drive as the neighborhood no longer feels like you are in the same city. The roads are hilly and the houses are older. On the way there all three of the kids fell asleep. Grandma and Grandpa had done their job too well!! So when we reached the base of the mountain we just drove around for a few minutes and admired the beauty of the place. It was late afternoon and with the sun getting ready to go down and all the green from the recent rains truly did make the mountains look especially beautiful. Jami and I decided that in two weeks we will return and hike the trail w/out the kidos. (If you are interested in babysitting just let us know) We forgot our camera so here is a picture of the part of the mountain we are talking about.
We then drove down to Signal Butte and Baseline to check out all the new store being built there. They actually have an IMAX theater in the area. We stopped Del Taco to grab a taco or two and them Jami was off to Ross with Tyli and the boys and I visited Staples and Petsmart. Jami found three really nice shirts on sale while the boys and I had a great time shopping. We looked at pens, rulers, tried out all the chairs, and the most fun was trying out all the keyboards. Dallin really liked the mouse that had the removeable ball. Petsmart is basically like visiting a little zoo for our boys. We got to watch some dogs get a haircut. The boys thought it was the coolest thing ever. I was more interested in seeing how many weird piercings the lady giving the dogs a haircut had on her face. She had a few piercing just in her cheek like a safety pin. Ouch! We met up with Jami at Best Buy and had fun looking at all the TV's. We checked out every demo on surround sound that we could find. The best part about our visit to Best Buy is that the salesperson realized in two minutes that we were not planning to buy anything and left us alone to our fun. Dallin liked the 52 inch plasma the best but I think it was because Ice Age II was on at the time. Before we left we went into the section of TV's in our current price range and decided we didnt' need another TV the size of the very nice portable DVD player we received for Christmas.
I think it is wonderful that we can do basically nothing and have such a great time with the kids. I don't know how long that will last but it was a very nice and pleasent Presidents Day!
